What I do

Performing

I perform around the UK and internationally as an improvising silent pianist. In addition to solo performances, I collaborate regularly with violinist Irine Røsnes, cellist Liz Hanks, and percussionist Trevor Bartlett as Frame Ensemble.

Researching

I’m researching for a PhD at University of Huddersfield in the music department, working on silent film improvisation. I also research the practices of early twentieth century cinema musicians, and the history of improvisation.

Producing

I’m the Artistic Director of Northern Silents which produces the busiest programme of live-scored film in the UK, including the annual Northern Silent Film Festival, and a year-round programme working with a network of venues and co-presenters in the north of England.
